Have you got ear wax build up or pain from a blocked ear?
Earwax is a normal bodily secretion which protects your ears from dust and dirt entering the ear canal and causing damage to the eardrum or delicate lining of the canal itself. Unfortunately many people of all ages have problems with ear wax build up causing a blockage.
Blocked ears often cause several symptoms such as earache:
- Difficulty hearing
- Ear infections
It can be tempting to self-treat by using cotton buds to try and remove the blockage but this will only push the wax further down the ear canal making it more difficult to remove.
Let us help you with our professional earwax removal service carried out by Liz, our qualified registered nurse using safe and effective micro suction technology.
What is micro suction?
Micro suction is the latest technique in earwax removal. It provides a prompt solution to wax build up and is quick, comfortable and pain-free. The procedure involves the use of small instruments and gentle suction to remove wax blockages under direct observation with binocular glasses fitted with a bright light to maintain direct vision into your ears at all times.
The great thing about micro suction is that only 3-5 days of treating the ears with oil is required beforehand – so there is no need for weeks of softening with drops prior to treatment. We can supply you with the oil if required.
Ear Syringing versus Micro suction
There are other ways of removing ear wax, for example, ear syringing. But this is messy and isn’t as effective or accurate as micro suction. As micro suction is performed without liquid, there is less chance of infection compared to syringing. Micro suction is more comfortable and more precise, as the clinician is able to see the ear canal. This enables them to ensure that all of the excess wax is safely removed. It is also suitable for those with perforated eardrums, while ear syringing is not. The NHS have determined that ear syringing is actually not only ineffective but can be unsafe as well.
The treatment is carried out here in our large and spacious clinic room, using the latest equipment and techniques ensuring we give the best and professional service possible.
We appreciate that some clients may have mobility problems and are unable to travel to the clinic and therefore in these situations we do offer a home service too.
How long does it take?
Firstly you’ll be asked a series of questions about your ear history and presenting symptoms.
The actual procedure itself normally takes around 15 minutes to complete but please allow 30 minutes in total. In most cases, relief is instant.
