Here at HJ Health and Ear Care Clinic in Yate, we don’t automatically assume that your ears are blocked with wax when you call to tell us you have painful ears or problems with hearing. Other conditions such as eustachian tube dysfunction can cause these symptoms too and so most importantly we make sure that we ask you to complete a medical consultation form so that we can ascertain the problems you have been incurring. We then thoroughly assess your ears to confirm it is ear wax that is causing the problem.
Earwax is actually pretty useful stuff – in small amounts. It’s a natural cleanser as it moves from inside the ear canal outward, gathering dead skin cells, hair and dirt along the way. Tests have shown that it has anti-bacterial and antifungal properties. If your ears don’t have enough earwax they are likely to feel itchy and uncomfortable.
But for many people, earwax can cause problems. An ear canal blocked up with earwax can cause ear aches, infections, and other problems if it gets lodged in a certain way. Earwax can cause a cough by stimulating the branch of the vagus nerve that supplies the outer ear and of course an excess of earwax can result in some loss of hearing.
Here at the H J Health & Ear Care clinic in Yate we find that clients want same day appointments or if not same week appointments which is understandable when you are in pain. We are aware that there are long waiting times generally in the Yate area and so as from August we are extending our clinics so that we can make the waiting time as low as possible.
If you’re not sure if it is wax that’s your problem, give us a call and we can arrange for you to pop by and have a free assessment which only takes a few minutes of your time. We can then book you in at your convenience for treatment.
