If you’re finding everything to be a little more muffled than usual, your friends are having to shout at you, and the tv is turned up high, it may be time to get your ears checked to see if ear wax blocking your ears is the problem.
What is ear syringing?
Ear syringing used to be performed by squirting an ungodly amount of water into the ear to dislodge the wax. Today, ear syringing, now known as ear irrigation is a much more refined process, using just the right amount of warm water to remove wax without risking damage to the ear. We take great care to dry the ear after treatment and ensure aftercare treatment advice is given which is very important.
Micro suction is the latest technique in earwax removal. It provides a prompt solution to wax build up and is quick, comfortable and pain-free. The procedure involves the use of gentle suction to remove wax blockages under direct observation with binocular glasses fitted with a bright light to maintain direct vision into your ears at all times.
How do I know if ear wax is the cause of my hearing problems?
We offer a free assessment to examine your ear canals to check to see if you have an excessive amount of wax that needs to be removed. We can ascertain if it is wax that is causing your problem. If this is the case, we will make an appointment for you for the following week which gives you time to apply olive oil to the ears each day to soften the ear wax making extraction easier. On return to the clinic we will use either the micro suction technique, irrigation or sometimes a mixture of both to get the best result. Every patient is treated as an individual and we aim to get full clearance of the ear wax.
While blocked ears are often caused by excessive wax, this isn’t always the case. You may have water trapped in your ear, a sinus infection, a middle ear infection, or a blockage caused by allergies. Blocked ears can also occur from quick altitude changes, as you may have noticed when flying. If you have a persistently blocked ear, the best thing to do is to talk to your doctor, as they will be able to quickly diagnose the problem.
